VOTE FOR CHANGE

Salaam all,

I would like to indicate my reasons for urging everyone NOT to Vote
for Maumoon. Maumoon has promised many things in the past 30 years but
had not fulfilled many and all the money the country received has gone
to his family and cronies.
Most importantly, Maumoon has been like a Shaitaan in disguise as a
Sheikh of Islam. However, his receipt of GCMG (Grand Cross of Saint.
Michael and Saint George) is the greatest 'honour' given by Christians
and one has to kneel down and bow before Queen to get it. Many
Islamic Leaders including former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Dr.
Mahathir Mohamed had refused to take.

This together with Maumoon's talk on 'Siyaasathu' programme on TVM
shows how scary this man is. He has said things against Islamic
teachings of Quran, Sunnah, Ijma and Qiyas. The four sources (in that
order) that we need to refer Islamic issues.

Unlike Maumoon Anni has never said anything against Islam or Muslims
that contradict with Islamic teachings.

If he (Anni) had said anything against Islam, Maumoon would have
seized the opportunity to attack him.

Out of the last 30 years, for well over 28 years of his dictatorship,
we only had TVM VOM (his mouth-piece media ) and Haveeru (run by DRP
and his senior minister's family). Therefore, we were told that Anni
is the Anti-Islam guy and we all believed that to some extent due to
our human weakness.

The more you hear something, regardless of the facts, the higher the
chances that you will believe.

There is no reason that we can believe or trust Maumoon because he has
lied about many things including ' Vaigethereah, Javvah, Fazayyah,
Havayah' ...

Make sure, you all remember the facts on giving jobs. High-ranking
Government jobs are given to Maumoon's family members even if there
are qualified people. For example, think of Dr. Mausoom whose PhD was
focused on Tourism... he was fired for no reason to give Yamin the
tourism ministry. Yamin is the bully Maumoon uses in promoting his
ideas.

And in siyaasathu program he claimed he is a Sidheequ (never lied).
BUt we all know for a fact that the man lies. He also stated in an
interview that his sons never smoked... (yeah they did drugs and got
into trouble in UK). some of us may recall long queues in Male' to get
dollars from our own dollar accounts were limited to about $200 per
person. Come-on give us a break.

Finally, let us look into current economic crisis in an economic
perspective. 70% of our GDP is spent on paying for government jobs
and expenditures. Most of it is the result of giving promotion to DRP
members. As anyone with some economic knowledge would understand, if
some one is given more money they will demand more goods or luxurious
items that they might have not demanded before. This would lead to
high demand and less supply in the market-- leading price hikes. The
sky-rocketting rent paid by isladers in Male' was one of the examples.
Government could not reduce prices but it could waiver millions of
Ruffiya owed by South Thaufeeq and many others.

Hence, I would like to urge all of you to share this information and
vote for change -- Vote for Anni.

Please pass the message to your friends and family and make sure they
understand the fact that Allah will not change a people's fate unless
they change themselves.

We need change -- Vote for Change -- Get rid of the DIctator!!

May Allah Bless our country with prosperity and save us from the
tyranny and iron-fist rule of Maumoon.

Please encourage all your friends, family and anyone you know to vote
for change. This one time you also need to make sure that your parents
do proper thinking and vote for change -- because we do not want
MAUMOON who oppose ISLAM and REJECT ISLAMIC TEACHINGS!!

Maldives holds historic election

The people of the Maldives are voting in the islands' first multi-party presidential elections, with President Gayoom seeking a seventh term in power.

Polling is taking place amid allegations of irregularities and vote officials say voting may be extended.

The president faces five challengers, some of whom have criticised his "dictatorial and bullying" style.

President Gayoom is Asia's longest serving leader, having been in power for more than 30 years.

His main challenger to the presidency, Mohamed Nasheed, said that although there were cases of voting lists not matching official records, the irregularities were minor and he feared violence if the vote was not completed. read more BBC News

Phone usage (Maumoon, Political Parties, Government and Businesses)

I got curious today after reading Hilath's amusing post about an unsolicited SMS message he had received from a mobile phone number registered to DRP's presidential candidate Maumoon Abdul Gayoom. Now, this is a time of intense political competition between the various candidates camps and an originating number on a SMS is pretty easy to spoof, so I'm not sure if it really did originate from the said number (though with the desperation reeking from DRP it seems very likely that it did :-P). But that's not what really struck me...

What got my attention was the fact that there now was a publicly listed mobile phone number registered to Maumoon. I've never before seen a mobile number registered to him listed on the Dhiraagu e-Directory and a quick search through various old snapshots of e-Directory data that I had confirmed that there indeed had been none - atleast none up until early June which was the last e-Directory snapshot I had. Anyway, I grabbed a fresh snapshot of the e-Directory and spent a little while running some interesting queries on the data.

VOTE FOR CHANGE VOTE 4 Anni

For foreign viewers: 3 years ago anyone raising their voice against the current government (who has been ruling this country for the past 30 years and still running for another term of 5 years) was beaten, held in captivity, sentenced to jail or framed as a terrorist.
The above picture shows all this has changed, and the hero behind all this is the MDP's presidential candidate ANNI & all the proud members of MDP behind him that dedicated there lives in the fight for freedom
Even though our views have changed or we belong to different political parties today One thing all Maldivians will agree is that MDP is the party behind all this new found freedom we see today.
The country will be voting for a new president on the 8th of this month and i hope we will all VOTE wisely and faithfully this time and get rid of this old regime.

Maldives Capital City Male' -earlier 1922 and now (Year 2008)

Male’ is one of the smallest capitals in the world and certainly as crowded since a third of the country’s population, about 75,000 live in Male’. With modern high-rise buildings housing the government offices, Male’ is the hub of trade and the central seat of the government. The roads are paved and a seawall surrounds this small island. A recently landscaped artificial beach makes up for the absence of a natural beach

Sight-seeing without a tour guide would not be difficult in the two square kilometer island Male’, especially if you carry a map with you. The main street Majeedhee Magu, runs right through the island from east to west. Chaandhanee Magu on the other hand runs across from north to south. The main streets are lined with shops selling clothes and jewelry to the latest technological items. During the rush hour a lot of motorized vehicles can be seen. However, traffic lights and one-way roads keep the traffic at a smooth flow with the rare interruption of traffic jams. .

Male’ offer visitors a wide variety of leisure activities, be it sight-seeing, relaxing or a shopping spree. The water-front souvenir shops offer a wide variety of art and craft items as well as swimming gear and beach wear. Most souvenir shops line the northern end of Chaandanee Magu, earlier known as the ‘Singapore Bazaar’ for its many imports from Singapore. Guides and vendors speak English and other foreign languages with visitors, pointing out the best locations and helping them bargain. The souvenir shops are stocked with an ample supply of gifts and souvenir items you can take away as mementos. Best buys include the Maldivian mats woven with local natural fibers and the beautiful lacquered vases and jewelry boxes. And last but not the least, the beautiful hand carved wooden miniature ‘dhonis’.

When shopping for souvenirs all visitors to Maldives should keep in mind that export of products made of turtle shell, black coral, pearl oyster shell and red coral is prohibited

moon? not moon?

time passes, there's no tick
there's no tock, from a digital clock

i wonder what my cat would look like without ears
a scrunchy tiger smiling bobble head
she nestles between my arms
as i lay on the couch, drowsy from eating
her head on my hand
eyes a little open

i remember going to best buy
they had lots of stuff
although nothing i really wanted
my friend was returning something
the transaction seemed to go smoothly
outside i was surprised once more how hot philadelphia was in september

once i dreamed i was the moon
and that all the world's lovers gazed up onto my serene yellow face
well, actually i didn't
but it would have been a charming metaphor
or maybe perhaps;
an allegory

time passes, i can hear it, my clock's analogue!

Childhood Faded Away

Childhood Faded away,
to a far away land,
simple, so simple were we,
Days of Play,
Going our Way,
Having fun, no care,
for another day,
time for us stood still,
playing king of the hill
Childhood Faded away
thinking of another day,
summer time was fine,
when friends were kind,
swiming holes were filled,
our hearts were thrilled
Childhood Faded Away
to a time that makes me sway
many years have passed away,
since childhood faded to another day,
Childhood Faded to places,
UNKNOWN TO US
floating somewhere in time.

Mind the Gap between Male’ and rest of the Maldives

There will always be a mega-gap between Male’ and the rest of the Maldives, claimed Dictator Gayyoom in a Question and Answer session on the national TV last night. According to Dictator Gayyoom, under his rule, there will always be major inequalities between Male’ and the rest of the Maldives. Lying through his teeth, the dictator quoted other countries such as the UK, claiming that there are differences in the rural areas and urban areas as regards education and health services. What the Dictator failed to mention is that in the UK all health care is free under the National Health Service (NHS) and that irrespective of where you live, the health care you receive is of the same standard. Even those living in the rural areas have easy access to a hospital that has the basic facilities one would find in a city hospital. Source from Dhivehiobserver

Man told to divorce 82 wives

Baba Mohammed Bello Abubakar
Mr Bello Abubakar challenged Muslim scholars two weeks ago

Nigeria's Islamic authority has told an 84-year-old man with 86 wives and 170 children that he must whittle his number of spouses down to four or face the death penalty, reports said on Thursday.

The BBC said that Mohammed Bello Abubakar, a former teacher and preacher, could face the death penalty under Sharia law, which was reintroduced to the Muslim-majority Niger State, North-West Nigeria, in 2000.

Nigerian media and the BBC interviewed Abubakar two weeks ago, when he claimed there was no punishment in the Qu'ran for having more than four wives.

However, the Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) last week blasted Abubakar, who is considered a heretic for his claims of being able to speak directly to Allah.

NSCIA Secretary-General Dr Abdul-Lateef Adegbite told Nigerian newspaper Punch that the NSCIA's President-General and Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Sa'ad Abubakar, was embarrassed by Abubakar's behaviour.

"The Sultan urged Muslims to ignore Bello Abubakar's brazen disregard of the Sharia, which clearly limits a man to four wives only," he said.

Abubakar also told the BBC that Allah had given him to power to control his 86 wives. - Sapa-dpa

Maldives' Reesha happy as a sand girl

Aishath Reesha of the Maldives, who trains on a sand track in her tiny island nation, does not care that she was beaten by nearly a half lap on her Olympic debut in the women's 800 metres heats on Friday.

"I ran a personal best? Really? I am so happy," Reesha told reporters, wearing a huge smile.

Her time of 2:30.14, an improvement of almost three seconds, still left her the slowest in the heats by almost 10 seconds and she was nearly half a minute off the pace needed to reach the semi-finals.
"How can I compete with these professionals? I'm just a young girl," said the 19-year-old.
Her only complaint about the Beijing Olympics is that the track is hurting her.

"This track is so hard on my feet. I run on sand, we only have a sand track," Reesha said.

Watermelon May Have Viagra-effect

Watermelon May Have Viagra-effect:
ScienceDaily (July 1, 2008) — A cold slice of watermelon has long been a Fourth of July holiday staple. But according to recent studies, the juicy fruit may be better suited for Valentine’s Day. That’s because scientists say watermelon has ingredients that deliver Viagra-like effects to the body’s blood vessels and may even increase libido."

“The more we study watermelons, the more we realize just how amazing a fruit it is in providing natural enhancers to the human body,” said Dr. Bhimu Patil, director of Texas A&M’s Fruit and Vegetable Improvement Center in College Station.

“We’ve always known that watermelon is good for you, but the list of its very important healthful benefits grows longer with each study.”

Beneficial ingredients in watermelon and other fruits and vegetables are known as phyto-nutrients, naturally occurring compounds that are bioactive, or able to react with the human body to trigger healthy reactions, Patil said.

In watermelons, these include lycopene, beta carotene and the rising star among its phyto-nutrients – citrulline – whose beneficial functions are now being unraveled. Among them is the ability to relax blood vessels, much like Viagra does.

Scientists know that when watermelon is consumed, citrulline is converted to arginine through certain enzymes. Arginine is an amino acid that works wonders on the heart and circulation system and maintains a good immune system, Patil said. read more

Domestic violence- Computer attack

Ok, so there was the hoax Benetton ad issue. But this one is, as far as I can tell, for real: computer ads featuring the victims of
‘computer attacks’.

There’s also a promotional video as part of the ad campaign. The campaign includes both men and women with ‘computer inflicted’ injuries.

There’s discussion of it here, by a blogger who finds it offensive, and a response from the makers of the ads. The maker insists that the adverts are simply too ’absurd’ to be offensive, but the blogger at ‘F-words’ (not to be confused with the F-word) writes that she finds the way that the ads appear to parody the domestic violence awareness adverts offensive.

I have to say, I don’t find the pictures, or the videos, particularly funny.

Related, news here of a Body Shop survey that suggests that attitudes amongst young people to violence in relationships are troubling -for instance, “1 in 10 teens think saying sorry makes it ok after they’ve hurt or forced a partner to do something. “

No laughing matter.
